PEREKABANDAR brings together professionals, researchers, students and communities who care about the quality of Malaysiaโs urban environment. Through research, publications, programmes, professional exchange and public engagement, we explore how streets, neighbourhoods, towns and cities can become more liveable, inclusive and responsive to the people who use them.
Our cities are growing. The quality of place must grow with them.
Malaysia is urbanising rapidly. New infrastructure, housing and development continue to transform our towns and cities, yet growth alone does not create good places. Walkability, public life, heritage, climate, mobility, identity and the relationship between buildings and streets all shape how a city is experienced. The challenge is not simply to build more. It is to ensure that development creates places that work well, feel connected and remain meaningful to the communities that inhabit them.
